EWE Baskets Oldenburg in Germany has announced they've signed swingman Durand Scott, signing him to a deal for the rest of the season. Scott arrives in Germany from the United States, where he spent the better part of the 2017-2018 season with the Memphis Hustle of the NBA G League. The former Miami Hurricane averaged averaged 12 points, 5.3 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game for the Hustle. The team announced the news via Twitter:
Though Scott is coming to Germany from the U.S., this is hardly his first experience overseas. Before his time in Memphis, Scott spent the first four seasons of his career playing across Europe, most recently with New Basket Brindisi in Italy during the 2016-2017 season. He joins a Oldenbug team that is making a push for the Basketball Bundesliga title, as they currently are fourth in the BBL standings with a 17-9 record.
After spending the season in Australia, Stephen Holt has signed in Poland. The 6'4" guard inked with BM Slam Stal Ostrow earlier today, signing with the Polish team after the conclusion of Australia's NBL regular season. Holt averaged 9.8 points and 3.1 rebounds per game for the Brisbane Bullets in his second stint in Australia, though his team finished with a dismal 9-19 record.
Stal Ostrow is reaching the end of the regular season in the PLK, Poland's top division, and currently sits in fifth place with a 17-9 record. This will be Holt's first time in Poland after time spent in the U.S., Australia, Spain and the Czech Republic.
Baller of the Week takes us all around the world, and this week it takes us to Luxembourg. Scott Morton, a longtime favorite at Racing Luxembourg, had one of the best games of his career when he dropped 34 points to go along with ten boards and ten assists in his team's 88-77 win over Heffingen.
Morton has been stuffing the stat sheet all season, but in a game where he doubled his scoring average and copped a triple double, it was easy to name him Baller of the Week.
Orlandina Basket in Italy has announced its signing of point guard Adam Smith. Smith has bounced around Europe this season, and Orlandina will be his fourth stop of the 2017-2018 season. The Georgia Tech product started out the season with Elan Chalon in France, then moved to Socar Petkim in Turkey where he played in ten games for Petkim. From there, Smith signed with Agribertocchi Orzinuovi in Italy's second division, where he played in six games over the course of February and March, before signing with Orlandina Basket.
While Smith has been all over the map, he has produced everywhere he's gone, averaging 16.4 points and 2.8 assists per game for the season. Orlandina could certainly use his scoring punch, as they currently sit at the bottom of the Serie A standings in second-to-last place with a 5-18 record.
Science City Jena has announced that it has signed Derrick Allen to a one-year extension. The club announced the news via Twitter March 14:
Other than his rookie season in Iceland and one season in Belgium, Allen has spent his entire career playing for various teams in Germany, most recently with SC Rasta Vechta from 2015-2017. The big man is averaging 12.1 points and 4.4 rebounds per game for Science City Jena this year, his best numbers in a few years.
Anytime an American has a big game overseas, we here at BA check it out to see if it’s a fit for Baller of the Week. It doesn’t matter how long or how short the player has been there – if they’re killing it overseas, we want to share them with you.
Which brings us to Nate Wolters, this week’s Baller of the Week. Nate only signed with Elan Chalon in January, but has been putting up big numbers ever since he arrived. He almost doubled his season averages in a recent game against Gravelines, and his big game in his team’s victory made us take notice and select him as Baller of the Week.
Rookie guard Malik Morgan has signed with New Heroes Basketball Den Bosch in the Netherlands, according to Eurobaskt and several other sources. The Tulane product joins the Dutch side from Chile, where he averaged 16.0 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.3 assists per game for CDU Catolica in Chile's Liga Nacional in his first season as a pro.
Den Bosch is currently second in the Dutch Basketball League standings with a 17-4 record. |
