Baller of the Week takes us to the Netherlands, where one of the Dutch Basketball League's top scorers put in a monster effort, putting up a near-triple double in his club's narrow loss to Dukes UDB. Anderson hit 5 of 9 from three-point range and doubled his season average of 18.1 ppg. Shoutout to Anderson for being Baller of the Week!
January 5, 2017 - One of the toughest things of playing professional basketball abroad has been missing my family and friends from back home. It’s even more difficult to be away from family during Christmas and celebrating the new year away from loved ones. Last year, in Spain, I learned this the hard way. I remember feeling a deep sense of loneliness and sadness whilst in my apartment on Christmas. This year was difficult again, however a generous family affiliated with Leeds Force invited me to spend five days in Portsmouth where we enjoyed traditional British Christmas food which included duck, scones, bubbles-and-squeak, and Christmas pudding. We had a fun time as we played cribbage, splat face, scrabble, yahtzee, trivial pursuit, and monopoly.
We're kicking off 2017 in Israel, where our Baller of the Week James Bell went off for 29 points in Holon's 100-93 victory over Galil Gilboa in Israel Winner League play. Bell more than doubled his season average of 14.0 ppg, going 4-of-8 from three-point range to pace Hapoel Holon. Bell's big game for one of the best teams in Israel this season (Holon is currently second in the league with a 9-3 record) means he is the first Baller of the Week of the new year!
