Kyan Anderson has signed to play in his fourth country in as many years after signing in Kosovo. Anderson, a 5'11" point guard from TCU, signed with Sigal Prishtina in the Kosovo Basketball Superleague after spending last season with Elan Bearnais Pau-Lacq-Orthez in France's LNB Pro A league. Anderson averaged 8.3 points and 3.8 assists per game for Pau-Lacq-Orthez, mostly coming off the bench as his team finished the regular season with an 18-16 record, sneaking into the LNB Pro A playoffs (though they lost in the quarterfinal round).
He joins a Sigal Prishtina team that will be looking to bounce back after losing in the SuperLeague Finals despite going 27-1 in the regular season. Anderson previously played in Belgium and Germany during his first two years as a pro.
AS Monaco Basket strengthened its roster earlier today by signing Jarrod Jones for the upcoming season. Jones comes to Monaco from Turkey, where the 28-year-old power forward played for Pinar Karisyaka in the Turkish Basketball Super League. In 47 games across all competitions, Jones averaged 17.7 points and 6.3 rebounds per game and was the third-leading scorer in the Basketball Champions League as Pinar advanced to the quarterfinal round. However, the team had a rough season domestically, finishing the BSL regular season with a 12-18 record and failing to qualify for the playoffs. Monaco is also very familiar with the Basketball Champions League having advanced to the finals of the BCL this past season, losing in the champinship to AEK Athens. They also lost in the finals of France's LNB Pro A.
Jones, a two-time Hungarian League champion, will be playing in France for the second time in his career, the first being a stop at JA Vichy-Clermont Metropole from 2015-2016.
In this week's edition of The Weekly Roundup: some players choose to leave their teams, while others simply change teams within the same country, and some Americans were part of mass signings by teams in Hungary and Belgium, respectively. On to the roundup!
Jon Diebler is the latest Baller Abroad to make a move, signing with Darussafaka in Turkey for the upcoming season. Diebler is no stranger to the Turkish Basketball Super League, having played there every season of his career other than his rookie year, which was spent in Greece. The Ohio State grad spent last season with Besiktas Sompo Japan where he averaged 10.3 points and 2.2 assists per game across all competitions for Besiktas, which included playing in the Basketball Champions League where the team advanced to the Round of 16.
Diebler joins one of the best teams in Europe in Darussafaka, which is coming off an underwhelming season domestically after losing in the quarterfinals of the BSL playoffs in Turkey. However, the team had great success in Europe, winning the EuroCup championship over Lokomotiv Kuban. Diebler joins fellow Americans Markel Brown, Cory Jefferson and Ray McCallum on the team.
Jackie Carmichael is headed to Russia. The power forward signed with Avtodor Saratov in the VTB United League, and will be plying in Russia for the first time in his career. Carmichael comes to Avtodor from Turkey, where he spent last season with Muratbey Usak Sportif in the Turkish Basketball Super League. He averaged 13.4 points. 7.0 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in 23 games for Usak Sportif, though unfortunately the team was relegated to the second-division Turkish Basketball League after going 6-24 and finishing the regular season in last place.
The Illinois State product will look to help Avtodor Saratov improve on last season's finish, as the team went 14-10 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the VTB playoffs. Russia will be the fifth country that Carmichael has played as he starts sixth pro season, having made stops in Spain, the U.S., Israel and Turkey.
Hapoel Tel Aviv in Israel has announced its signing of Jamal Shuler to a one-year deal. Shuler comes to Tel Aviv from France, where he played for Nanterre 92 in the LNB Pro A League. The VCU product averaged 10.5 points per game across all competitions for Nanterre, including 13.9 points and 5.1 assists per game in the Basketball Champions League as Nanterre advanced to the Round of 16 in the competition.
Shuler joins a Hapoel Tel Aviv team that went 19-14 and advanced to the semifinals of the Winner League playoffs. He had played in France since 2014, and this will be his first time playing in Israel in his career.
The Flexx Pistoia (aka Pistoia Basket) have announced the signing of Dominique Johnson for next season. Johnson also spent last season in Italy with Umana Reyer Venezia.
