Zenit Saint Petersburg has found an American to replace Argentine Nicolas Laprovittola: Malcolm Griffin. Zenit signed Griffin late Jan. 22 after Laprivittola left the team and signed with FIATC Joventut in Spain for the rest of the season. Griffin has been having the best season of his short career this season, averaging 15.6 points and 5.0 assists per game for Kolossos BC in Greece. Zenit bought out Griffin's contract at Kolossos to nab the point guard.
This will be the third country in Griffin's two-year career having spent his first season in Latvia with BK Liepajas Lauvas. Zenit is in the middle of a tight race for first place in the VTB United League with a 10-2 record, and is 2-1 in their group so far in the Eurocup. Their next game is Jan. 24 against Bayern Munich in the Eurocup.
